ART no longer safe from FEDS
The Secret Service sent agents to investigate a college art gallery exhibit of mock postage stamps, one depicting President Bush with a gun pointed at his head.

"We need to ensure, as best we can, that this is nothing more than artwork with a political statement," Secret Service spokesman Tom Mazur said.

Riveting commercial SHUNNED by broadcasters
"It begins with a scene familiar in suburban America — school girls in soccer uniforms climb out of their family SUVs and rush out onto the field, pony tails bobbing behind them, as parents shout encouragement. But just as the game gets under way, a blast pierces the excitement. Panic and chaos erupt; there are injuries. A mother screams in anguish as her husband emerges from the field carrying the lifeless body of their daughter. The screen goes dark and a tagline comes up: "If there were land mines here, would you stand for them anywhere?"

The spot's release by the U.N. agency, which says it sent the PSA to dozens of U.S. broadcasters, including all major networks and most cable channels, has been met by a deafening silence.

CNN did not respond to repeated calls seeking comment.

NRA: Give the Teachers Guns!
“I’m not saying that that means every teacher should have a gun or not, but what I am saying is we need to look at all the options at what will truly protect the students,” the NRA’s first vice president, Sandra S. Froman, told The Associated Press.

Gun-control restrictions would not have prevented Jeff Weise, 16, from killing nine people and himself Monday at Red Lake High School near Bemidji, Minn., said Froman, an attorney expected next month to be elected president of the NRA, which claims 4 million members.

The presence of an unarmed guard at the school failed to stop the siege, she noted.

“No gun law, no policy that you could implement now or that was already implemented, I think, could possibly prevent someone so intent on destruction,” she said. “I think everything’s on the table as far as looking at what we need to do to make our schools safe for our students.”

Yup, there's no way to stop bringing firearms into schools than to bring firearms into school. Mmhmm.

This is my first post here. I am currently fighting myself right now. I'm starting to lose faith that I can do anything about any situation right now. Every time I turn around there is something else going on. I feel as if everything is a burden and I dont' know how to fix anything. I'm just looking for some reminders on why I should keep fighting. A little pick me up if you will.

Article 9, Japan's promise of peace to the world, is under threat again...
Since the symbol originated here in Japan, I'm suggesting to people that the Japanese government might require a peaceful reminder. If you wouldn't mind sending a few birds, write "article 9" on them somewhere with perhaps anything else you'd like to add, and send them to this address:

1-6-1 Nagata-cho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 100-8914, Japan

Here's How:

Koizumi calls for revision of Constitution's war-renouncing Article 9

Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at 07:34 JST
TOKYO — Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi reiterated his call for revising the war-renouncing article of Japan's Constitution to make clear the Self-Defense Forces are legitimate in a recent interview with Newsweek magazine.

P.S. spread the message...

art project

hello everyone. i am writing to describe an art project i am just starting, and also ask for some help. i have for a long time wanted to begin some sort of rape project that could hopefully touch a broader audience about the subject and also raise awareness. i am a photography major but i work with mixed media, as well.

the basic layout at this stage is to have a polaroid with a small, square piece of text typed out on white paper underneath. the text, for example, would say something like this:

'she was being cared for in a russian orphanage. sometime between the ages of one and three she was sexually abused. consequently, she acts out violently and has uncontrollable rage. she was prescribed zoloft at the age of seven.'

the design of the project will change with time. my initial skteches have been to place the polaroids onto a piece of painted matboard and attach the text directly underneath.

the problem is that i would like for this to become a huge, ongoing project. i am beginning by using people i know who have experienced rape or sexual abuse, but there are many more whom i don't know personally. this is where you can help. would you be willing to share a small portion of your story and a polaroid of yourself? it can be annonymously donated to the project, if that would make anyone more comfortable. but i would like to collect as many of these as humanly possible and, once it is all gathered, create a unique and artistic way to help people in the world WAKE UP about this problem.

if you or anyone you know would be interested, please please please email me at: kristina@revolutionphotos.com

thank you!!

**it doesn't have to be rape. it could be anything that involves feeling afraid sexually, because no matter what it's still damaging. also, please link this to your journal if you think that would help to spread the word. this is for women AND men. also, if their is a need for confidentiality, perhaps participants could design masks or a face covering in some way so a picture could still be included?

Please help these children.
Hi guys -
I really hate the fact that this is bordering "spam," but this is SO SO important. The recent school Siege in Beslan, Russia is considered the equivalent of America's 9/11. Approximately 1200 people were taken hostage by Chechen rebels in a K-12 Beslan school on their first day of classes, 9/1/04. The seige lasted 62 hours and ended after a 10 hour gun fight. Over 340 people were killed during the explosions and gun fight, 156 of them children. 531 people were hospitalized, of them 283 children, 92 of whom are described as being in "grave" condition. 260 people are missing. Please take a look at helpthechildren, post a banner in your journal, or donate to the International Foundation for Victims of Terror Acts to help the families of children that were hurt during the siege and support now-orphaned children. Thank you so much in advance!

I've cross posted this to several communities, so if you get this twice I am sorry for cluttering your friends page.

Fighting for Humanity
This is my first post to this community but I just wanted to tell everyone about an organization/website I am starting up that is geared towards helping humanity. The organization is called Fighting for Humanity and can be found at www.FightingforHumanity.org.

I started Fighting for Humanity because I believe that human kind can do better. We are living in a world where people are dying every day. People are dying of mistreatment, of hunger, of war and of disease, but these deaths are preventable. Millions of people around the world are living in atrocious conditions, without a stable roof over their heads, without proper medical attention, under oppressive and corrupt governments, and even without food and water. We, however, are just sitting idly by, watching and letting these people live in horrible conditions and die needless deaths. It is our duty, not as members of some political party or of a religion or even of a country, but as human beings to do something about this ignorance and lack of compassion that is plaguing our planet Earth.

We are here at Fighting for Humanity to try and rectify this situation. We hope to provide people with the information and resources they need to make a difference and give them the greatest power of all: knowledge. We are hoping to provide our visitors with the latest information on the plights and hardships people are facing all over the world, from Cleveland, Ohio to Bangladesh, India. We also want to provide visitors with links and information on resources to help them make a difference.

Before we can really get going, however, we need to bring some traffic into our site to recruit volunteers and get the word out. So please visit our site, tell your friends about it, post our banner on your site, sign our pledge, and, if you feel so inclined, volunteer. We are in the need of an experienced web programmer and graphic designer along with people to research and compile information, help with public relations or anything else they might be interested in. If you have any ideas or questions feel free to contact us at Brian@FightingforHumanity.org and remember: working together we can make a difference.

Information and Action
I have created a new community to exchange information on issues that affect the rights, liberties, welfare, and lives of human beings. It's different, because it's specifically geared towards taking action.

I was hoping it would help me, and other people, who didn't want to just sit back and bitch, but who wanted to take (even just a small) action on things that bothered them.

I miss all of you, sorry I have so much going on. I'm making a sort of "super community" though (i'm actually going to make it a whole website, and possibly even its own domain if i can find a way to foot the bill). It will incorporate this livejournal, so you will still be able to post here and have it appear on the site, but i'm also gunna do a whole bunch of other stuff with it. If any of you would be interested in it, let me know by emailing me. My email address is Mike1022@juno.com .... I hope you respond, I'm going to start it reguardless, but I would like to see if any of you would be interested :-) Hope to find you all well :-) ~Mike
